What You Should Know About KIDNEY Donation

 FAQs

  • A living kidney donor is someone who volunteers to give one of their kidneys to a person in need of a transplant. You only need one healthy kidney to live a normal, full life.

    Start Your Screening

  • Candice Davis is listed on the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s (RWJUH) registry.  Through RWJUH, you’ll undergo a confidential screening process. Doctors will review your overall health, medical history, and run simple tests to determine if you’re a safe and eligible match.

    Start Your Screening

  • No. If you don’t know your blood type, the hospital can test it easily. If you already know it, you can be pre-screened more quickly.

  • Every surgery carries risks, but kidney donation is a well-established and safe procedure. Donors are carefully evaluated before being approved. Most donors recover fully and go on to live healthy lives with their remaining kidney.

  • Recovery varies, but most donors spend 2–3 days in the hospital and return to normal activities within 4–6 weeks. Many donors can return to work in about a month, depending on their job.

    Start Your Screening

  • No. All medical costs related to the evaluation, surgery, and follow-up care are covered.

    Start Your Screening

  • For most people, living with one kidney does not impact overall health or lifespan. Donors continue to live active, healthy lives.

  • It begins with a simple screening. Click the link below to get started.

  • Even if you aren’t a direct match, you can still help. You may be able to participate in a paired exchange program, where your donation helps Candice receive a compatible kidney from another donor.

  • You can share Candice’s story with your family, friends, and networks. The more people who hear her story, the better chance we have of finding a match.
